Why 3D Cinema (and TV) won’t work in the long-term

“3D films are dark, small, stroby, headache inducing, alienating and expensive. The question is: how long will it take people to realize and get fed up?”

These are the words of Walter Murch, the most respected film editor and sound designer in the modern cinema. As an editor, he is an expert about how an image interacts with the audience’s eyes.

All his arguments – especially the focus/converge one have been sloshing around in my mind for ages.  I wish I’d had his experience and reputation to make these points myself.  I don’t like 3D other than for the transitory “oh that’s clever” experience.  How would 3D improve the experience of enjoying “The King’s Speech”?
