Have you heard of the Wayback Machine? Run by Alexa, the Web ratings and toolbar poeple, the Wayback Machine aims to “save” the entire Web at regular intervals. They now have umpteen terrabytes of data stored away. I’ve known about it for a few years and have regularly invited the “machine” to archive all the sites I’m involved in. You can look at Microsoft’s Web site of 1996 advertising a Beta test version of project ’97 and such like. My reason for pointing this out, is they’re now started archiving old digitised films and it’s a fascinating collection. I’ve sent this link to Tania, my 14 year old daughter! The Wayback Machine can be found at webdev.archive.org.
